William & Mary

Restructuring History

On July 1, 2006, the College of William and Mary began a journey to craft a new University Human Resources System under the authority granted by The Restructured Higher Education Financial and Administrative Operations Act (ACT) passed by the General Assembly and signed by Governor Timothy M. Kaine on May 18, 2006.

The new University Human Resources System is the product of some 140 employees who have dedicated many hours and a strong commitment to the process. Over the past 18 months, we have gathered critical input from employees across the campus about what they think works and doesn’t work in the State system. This new system reflects the thoughtful responses we received.

The new system embodies the partnership between the College and its employees. It is designed to recognize and reward the contributions of all of our employees in ensuring William and Mary’s continued excellence.

The proposal for the new University Human Resources System was presented to the Committee on Administration of the Board of Visitors on September 5, 2008 and was presented at the September Board of Visitors meeting for approval.
