Go Green & Win Cash!!
Full Description
Greener Virginia
October 1-December 31
Did you know...
Americans throw away enough aluminum to rebuild our entire commercial fleet of airplanes every three months? Cigarette butts and filters take 12 years to biodegrade?
If every American recycled just one-tenth of their newspapers, we could save about 25 million trees each year? Many businesses, organizations and individuals are making the commitment to "go green". What does it all really mean?
The "Greener Virginia" CommonHealth program will help state employees to eat green, save green and live green. Here are some of the healthy and environmentally
sound habits that will be discussed:
- consuming more whole foods, grown locally to help you, the environment and your local economy
- organic foods: Are they safer? Are they more nutritious?
- "Green Scheme"- big companies are cashing in on the faddish nature of "going green"- Find out which products are worthy of your money and which ones are a big scam.

Green Executive Order and a Challenge
By the power vested in me by Article V of the Constitution of Virginia, and §2.2-103 of the Code of Virginia, and subject always to my continuing and ultimate authority and responsibility to act in such matters, I hereby direct the Governor's Secretaries and all executive branch agencies and institutions to increase the use of sustainability practices, many of which will result in longterm reduced costs in state government operations. Gov. Exec. Order...June 10, 2009.
Areas for change included energy and water use, waste reduction, and travel. The order also stated, "Every day we each make choices that result in impacts to the environment; opportunities to lessen these impacts abound. For instance, we can reduce automobile emissions by holding videoconferences or conference calls rather than face-to-face meetings
and by walking, bicycling, carpooling, or taking transit to work. We can reduce the need for landfills by reducing the disposable items we use and recycling the rest. "
Governor Kaine challenges individuals and agencies to make voluntary and deliberate changes to be more green. What can you do? Join CommonHealth and explore your options!
Go Green & Win Cash!!
With the Greener Virginia program, they will be awarding cash gift cards as incentives. What could be greener? They are much more cost effective and require no boxing, shipping and delivering. All the participant needs to do is sign in with their ID number and they will be added to the drawing list. They will be drawing monthly for several $10, $25 and $100 winners in every region. At the end of the quarter, they will draw one name for a $500 cash prize. We know everyone appreciates money! Winners will be subject to tax, and we will send a letter to that effect.
