Insurance Requirement & Waiver Request

Due December 31

Insurance Requirement

Due to the extremely high cost of health care in the United States and the importance of adequate health insurance coverage, the university requires all full-time undergraduate and graduate students and all F-1 and J-1 international students to have health insurance coverage throughout the school year as a condition of enrollment. Every academic year, these students must either elect to enroll or waive the W&M-sponsored Student Insurance Plan to comply with this requirement. Falsifying or misrepresenting insurance information is a violation of the Honor Code and will be reported.

William & Mary sponsors a comprehensive student health insurance plan, provided by UnitedHealthcare StudentResources, that meets the Affordable Care Act mandate and is categorized as a Platinum plan.

Enrollment in the Student Insurance Plan (By December 31)

Students who elect to enroll in the W&M-sponsored Student Insurance Plan must submit an enrollment form and are financially responsible for the health insurance policy charges posted on their student account.

Waiving the Student Insurance Plan (By December 31)

Students who elect to waive the student insurance plan because they already maintain adequate health insurance coverage must submit an approved waiver request to avoid being financially responsible for the health insurance policy charges posted to their student account.

Failure to Enroll Into or Waive Coverage

Students who neither elect nor waive coverage by December 31 will be enrolled in the student insurance plan and will be financially responsible for the health insurance policy charges posted to their student account.
