Prior to joining FYE in June of 2017 I served as a live-in staff member for Residence Life at William & Mary (2009-2017), Christopher Newport University (2007-2009), and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (2005-2007) where I was responsible for the day-to-day management and administration of a group residence halls and student staff members. In this new role I will be working with partners across campus year-round to plan and implement First-Year Initiatives (FYIs) for first-time-in-college and transfer students. I hold Master’s degrees in Criminology from Niagara University and College Student Personnel from The University of Dayton, and am completing my Ph.D. in Educational Policy, Planning & Leadership from William & Mary.

Lauren M. Garrett

In my role as the Director of First Year Experience, I have the privilege of working with faculty, staff, and student leaders in the development and implementation of a comprehensive first-year program for both first-time in college and transfer undergraduate students.  Prior to returning to my alma mater as a professional staff member, I most recently served as the Director of Residential Life and Student Services at Maine Maritime Academy with responsibilities in residential life, student conduct, new student orientation, and student engagement and involvement.  I hold a Master of Arts in Higher Education and Student Affairs from The Ohio State University and am completing my Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership and Policy from the University of New Hampshire with a research interest in first-year student transition experiences and resources.
