Out of Country Travel
In addition to normal trip planning, those traveling to destinations outside of the United States should consider the following:
- The Travel Authorization Form, which is to be completed prior to travel, should include an explanation as to how the proposed travel will benefit the Commonwealth of Virginia, and it should also include the signature of the Provost.
- The U.S. State Department maintains a website which includes travel warnings for out-of-country destinations.
- The Center for Disease Control maintains a website which includes health warnings for out-of-country destinations.
- Out-of-country travelers should be sure to have an appropriate visa and a current passport.
- Individuals renting a car outside of the territorial United States (including Canada and Puerto Rico) are required to purchase and will be reimbursed for Liability Damage Waiver (LDW) and Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) insurance. Other types of insurance offered such as trip cancellation, personal health or life insurance are not reimbursable.
- Lodging and M&IE rates for foreign destinations can be obtained from the U.S. State Department's website.
- The Travel Expense Reimbursement Voucher (pdf) should be completed in U.S. dollars. A reference to the source used for currency conversion should also be included.
