Family Orientation
Family Orientation is scheduled from 2 pm on Friday, August 24, 2012 to Noon on Saturday, August 25, 2012. A detailed schedule will be available on June 1, 2012.
Guiding Principles
There are several broad principles that are fundamental to William & Mary’s approach to undergraduate education. Simply put, these are:
- That the liberal arts are the foundation of higher education. Each student, regardless of his or her major, must take two full years of work in liberal arts.
- That the College should seek to educate the whole person. Therefore, the environment outside the classroom is meant to contribute as directly and importantly to a student’s development as do the academic activities.
- That living in residence halls enhances the growth of the student.
- That the criterion of excellence in teaching and learning, in class and out of class, is at the heart of the educational process.
- That students are adults and should share adult rights and responsibilities. They should participate at appropriate levels in decision-making, and they are expected to conduct themselves in a mature and responsible fashion, both on and off campus.
The activities, programs, services, and regulations of the College are all planned with these objectives in mind.
