Mark was born in Camden, South Carolina and completed a bachelors degree in political science from the University of South Carolina. After graduation he worked at Coastal Carolina University in the Office of Student Activities & Orientation and other jobs in Myrtle Beach before he realized he wanted to start a career in Student Affairs. Mark received a Masters degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Tech and worked at Towson University and Gettysburg College before arriving at William & Mary to be the Associate Dean of Students and pursue a Ph.D. He says that his job keeps him on his toes, and he loves every minute of it.
When Mark is not at work, he loves spending time with his wonderful family. His wife Trista also works at the College, and they find Williamsburg a great place to raise a family. Their children are 10 and 7 and keep them busy 24/7.
