Past Summer Institutes

The two-week intensive courses balance time between the classroom, guest speakers, and site visits at relevant locations to the coursework being taught in class. These experiences give fellows practical meaning to the theories and readings taught in class.

2014
  • The Fellows of DC Summer Institutes (2014) consisted of three cohorts, the fifth National Security Institute, the fourth Community Engagement Institute, and the third New Media Institute.
  • The National Security Institute participated in a two-week intensive course taught by Professor Floyd.
  • The Community Engagement Institute participated in a two-week intensive course taught by Dr. Stelljes.
  • The New Media Institute participated in a two-week intensive course taught by Professor Stoddard.
  • Each of these courses was then followed by a 10-week summer internship in the Washington, D.C. area.
2013
  • The Fellows of DC Summer Institutes (2013) consisted of three cohorts, the fourth National Security Institute, the third Leadership & Community Engagement Institute, and the second New Media Institute.
  • The National Security Institute participated in a two-week intensive course taught by Professor Floyd.
  • The Leadership & Community Engagement Institute participated in a two-week intensive course taught by Dr. Stelljes.
  • The New Media Institute participated in a two-week intensive course taught by Dr. Stock.
  • Each of these courses was then followed by a 10-week summer internship in the Washington, D.C. area. 
2012

  • The inaugural classes of the DC Summer Institutes (2010) consisted of two cohorts, the National Security Institute and the Global Business Institute.
  • The National Security Institute participated in a two-week intensive course taught by Dr. Arsenault and followed by a 10-week summer internship in the Washington, D.C. area.
  • The Global Business Institute participated in a two-week intensive course taught by Dr. Rahtz and Dr. Adkins and followed by a 9-week summer internship in the Washington, D.C. area.
