For Applicants

To be eligible for the W&M Washington Intern Fund, W&M students must:
  •  Have accepted an internship offer from or have started a substantial application effort to an established organization in the Washington DC Metropolitan area – including:  
    • Fairfax, Arlington, Prince William, Loudoun Counties in Virginia
    • Falls Church, Alexandria, Fairfax City and all other independent cities in the included counties in Virginia
    • District of Columbia
    • Montgomery, Prince George’s County, Charles counties in Maryland
    • Not including Fredericksburg, Winchester, Baltimore, or Annapolis
  • Work for no pay or minimal pay (less than $100/month)
  • Work at least 30 hours a week for at least 8 weeks.
  • Be a current W&M student in good standing.  Seniors working/taking classes in DC for the summer who will then graduate in August are also eligible.
  • Have all application materials submitted by the appropriate deadline
Grants are intended to support a working internship experience. Programs excluded from consideration include:
  • Fieldwork
  • Research
Applicants will be selected based on the following criteria:
  • Participation in a W&M DC-based academic experience
  • The overall quality, effort, and clarity of their application
  • The quality of their essay describing the value of their experience as it relates to their career goals
  • Financial need as demonstrated by the W&M Financial Aid Office
  • The completeness of a budget demonstrating need for summer/semester costs
