Looking to hire a summer intern?

William & Mary has the perfect student for you!

The DC Summer Institutes are composed of an accelerated course and an internship in DC. Our DC Summer Institute fellows are selected through a rigorous application and interview process and are in DC to study a specific topic.

2017 Summer Institutes:

Benefits to Employers
  • DCSI fellows are William & Mary's shining stars! They must undergo a rigorous application and interview process to be admitted into the Institutes.
  • Whether paid or unpaid, our fellows are available and expected to work full-time as a part of your staff.
  • Fellows are in DC to study a specific topic that relates to your organization. They are likely to settle in DC and enter your field upon graduation - giving you the first shot at hiring some of the best and brightest new employees.
  • W&M administrators work to ensure that you and your intern have a mutually beneficial experience. Our staff will meet with you before, during, and after the summer to discuss and evaluate the internship.
Hear what previous internship supervisors have to say about our Fellows:

"The W&M Summer Security Institute does more than just offer smart, hardworking students the opportunity to intern in the nation’s capital; it offers organizations throughout the city dedicated employees who think on their feet, problem solve, and write powerfully – many of the most important traits for working in fast-paced national security environments."

"Our organization truly benefited from the Fellow’s work this summer. For this reason, Global Playground is very appreciative of the W&M Summer Institute for providing such an exceptional Fellow who consistently demonstrated commitment, intellectual curiosity, and professionalism."

"I supervised a William & Mary intern in summer 2013 as part of the New Media program. Her professionalism, can-do attitude, interest in learning new things, and passion for producing high quality work were impressive. She performed at a level well beyond her years, taking on challenge projects that I'd normally reserve not for an undergraduate intern but for a graduate level student. Her writing was superb, her ability to master new communication technologies was unparalleled, and her critical thinking skills never failed to impress not only me but her colleagues from across the museum. The knowledge, skills, and curiosity instilled in her at the College of William & Mary made her an incredible intern--and, I'm sure, a highly successful future leader in her career field."

  • How the Institutes Work

A William & Mary professor teaches an intensive (8 hours each day for 2 weeks) course that is specifically designed for the Institutes.  Upon completion of the course, fellows begin full-time work at their internship sites, where they remain for ten weeks. Fellows receive credit for their coursework and for the academic work they complete in association with their internship.
