In this course we will examine the use of capital punishment, and challenges to its use, in the U.S. criminal justice system. In doing so, we will consider the way law and politics intersect and affect its implementation. We will discuss and analyze the legal and political arguments for and against capital punishment and meet with prosecuting and defense attorneys working on capital cases, as well as criminal justice policy analysts.
