Washington DC provides you with access to a wide variety of experiences and contacts in your field of interest. Our students have plentiful unique networking opportunities year-round.
Semester Program/DC Summer Institute
Students pursuing either of these opportunities will network with local professionals through a variety of site visits, guest speakers, and alumni events. The Semester Programs and Summer Institutes also feature a formal mentorship opportunity that pairs each student with a William & Mary alum working in DC.
Winter and Spring Break Seminars
These opportunities pack networking, site visits, and guest speakers into a whirlwind DC experience for students to connect with DC over the holiday breaks. In addition, students will have a chance to meet DC alumni through speed networking events.
Summer Session links students to DC's unique professional and cultural resources through their coursework. The Washington Center also hosts a Summer Events Program, connecting students to alumni and organizations through a wide variety of workshops and volunteer opportunities.
"The best part of the program was the on-site visits to places such as NPR and the United States Institute of Peace. Everyone that we met was incredibly insightful and open to any questions we had. It was inspiring to spend time with professionals who were working in the same field I aspire to work in and it was a great way to help me figure out what kind of career path I wanted to take."
-Rachel Kallon, Fall 2016 DC Semester Program
"I am so grateful for the opportunity to not only get to know amazing professors and DC staff, but for all of the alumni we were able to learn from and network with, including members of Congress, New York Times reporters, and James Comey himself."
- Emmel El Fiky, 2017 DC Spring Break Seminar, Foreign Policy
"Recently, I was attending an interview, and I had met my interviewer at the DC Winter Seminar networking dinner! He remembered me and we were able to move forward quite quickly with the interview. I was also able to reach out to several of the other alumni I met then for an op-ed piece I was working on. I walked away from the dinner with a useful stack of business cards almost an inch thick.”
– Heidi Crockett, 2016 DC Winter Seminar, Urban Education
