The advanced practicum training is an integral part of the preparation in becoming a clinically skilled and multiculturally competent psychologist. As such, we encourage applications from psychology doctoral students who seek in-depth training, intense supervision, and clinically rich experiences. It is important to us to foster a collegial environment in which advanced practicum students feel included, supported, and challenged to broaden their knowledge and skills in preparation for pre-doctoral internship.
Our practicum is highly sought after and is known for its clinical rigor. This is likely also connected to the value the entire staff places on training and the commitment to providing quality supervision. The value of and commitment to advanced practicum training is exhibited through the contributions of all staff members from orientation to the Center and supervision selection through weekly didactic seminars and case presentations. Furthermore, our Center deeply values diversity in the broadest sense. The advanced practicum offers experience with addressing the needs of diverse students in terms of gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, socio-economic class, physical ability, and religious affiliations, who are dealing with various presenting concerns on different levels of severity. Our staff represents diversity along many of the same characteristics as well as in their professional affiliations, disciplines, and interests.
The William & Mary Counseling Center is accredited by the American Psychological Association through 2017. Also, the Center is accredited by IACS (International Association of Counseling Services) and it is a member of ACCTA (Association of Counseling CenterTraining Agencies) and APPIC (Association of Psychology Post Doctoral andInternship Centers).
We open the application process the 2nd week of February. Application materials will be reviewed for interest in training at our site. Interviews will be offered to applicants who express a clear desire in the training opportunities we offer. The 1-hour interview generally occurs in mid to late March.
