Only applicants from doctoral programs in counseling psychology or clinical psychology will be accepted for the advanced practicum training. Applicants should have completed at least 2 years of clinical practicum.
Prepare a letter of interest that includes a sentence with the dates and times when you can be available for interviews. Ask a current clinical supervisor for a recommendation letter that describes your clinical practicum experience and your progress thus far. Send your interest letter and a copy of your vita to Dr. Felicia Brown-Anderson ([[fxbrow]]) and a copy to the Center's office manager, Lorraine Bartlett ([[lhbart]]). Please ask the current clinical supervisor to e-mail the recommendation letter to Dr. Brown-Anderson and Ms. Bartlett. If you need to speak with Ms. Bartlett by phone, she can be reached at 221-3620. Applications accepted beginning the 2nd week of February.
Practicum students make a commitment for two consecutive semesters, which include participating in orientation outreach at the beginning of the fall semester. The advanced practicum will begin the Monday of the first day of class and will end one week after the last dayof exams. Advanced Practicum students will accrue and document a minimum of 500 practicum hours during the year.
The Counseling Center will provide 4 advanced practicum positions for the 2011-2012 academic year.
Stipend and Benefits
The advanced practicum position offers a salary of $7,000 paid on a twice a month basis. Advanced practicumstudents receive 5 days of combined annual leave, sick leave, and professional development leave for professional activities such as dissertation proposal defense, internship interviews, and conferences.
Advanced practicum students have access to offices with digital recording equipment, a personal computer linked to the University network, library privileges, eligibility to purchase a faculty/staff parking pass, and access to the Recreation Center.
Policies on Use of Leave Time
Advanced Practicum students are strongly encouraged to take their annual leave during the time of internship interviews. All annual leave and professional development days must be approved at least two weeks in advance by submitting a completed Leave Request Form to the Advanced Practicum Training Coordinator. Approval must be confirmed prior to being away from the office.
