Welcome!

Graduate students of Arts & Sciences, students in the School of Education, and the Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences (VIMS) are welcome to:

  • Use the job and internship databases available through TribeCareers
  • Schedule one-on-one career advising appointments
  • Attend networking receptions and employer information sessions
  • Participate in campus-wide workshops on resumes, federal jobs, and interviewing
  • Attend career fairs on and off campus
  • Utilize Quick Advising at the Career Center (please note that regular Quick Advising is staffed by undergraduates)

Cancelling an appointment:
If for any reason you cannot attend your scheduled appointment time, out of courtesy and professional practice, it is your responsiblity to call the front desk at (757) 221-3231 at least one business day prior to your scheduled appointment. By giving notice you are providing a fellow student the opportunity for an appointment.

Quick-Advising Hours

Monday - Thursday, 2pm-4pm

Come in with quick questions regarding cover letter, resume, interviews, upcoming events, etc.

Ask an Executive

Monday: 1pm-4pm

Wednesday: 3pm-5pm

Friday: 9am-12pm

Ask an Executive is a chance to sit down with an Executive Partner and ask industry and other career related questions. Ask an Executive is a new initiative and will take place August 30 - October 27, 2017. Information about the Executive Partners will be featured each week in the Career Conversations newsletter.

In addition, the Career Center offers several graduate-level workshops throughout the year on topics such as careers outside academia, developing fellowship proposals, and writing CVs. We also organize mock interviews with members of the Graduate Studies Advisory Board. The Arts & Sciences Graduate Assistant in charge of graduate programming can be reached at [[csga04]].

For advice about careers in academia, Graduate students are encouraged to consult with faculty in their departments.
