Group Fitness Class Descriptions

All of our classes are open to different fitness levels,  from those who are new to group fitness programs and/or exercising to those who are active in group fitness programs or another type of exercise program.

*It is recommended that individuals who are new to exercise consult with their physician before participating in group fitness classes. Individuals who have been cleared by a physician but have medical conditions such as high blood pressure, arthritis, diabetes, asthma, pregnancy, etc. should make their fitness instructor(s) aware of their condition in case the instructor has any advice for modifications during the class.

3-2-1: Includes repeating intervals of 3 min. cardio, 2 min. strength and 1 min. core conditioning. A great all-around cardio and toning workout that pushes you to your limit!

BODYCOMBATTM : The empowering cardio workout where you are totally unleashed. This fiercely energetic program is inspired by martial arts and draws from a wide array of disciplines such as karate, boxing, taekwondo, tai chi and muay thai.

BODYPUMP™: This is the original barbell class that strengthens your entire body. This strength training workout challenges all your major muscle groups by using the best weight-room exercises like squats, presses, lifts and curls.

Boot Camp: The high intensity circuit workout that you've been waiting for! Mostly focusing on cardio and strength, this class sprints, challenges, body weight exercises and more. Get ready to take your fitness to the next level!

Cardio Dance: A mixture of classic aerobics and various dance styles set to top 100 hits to create a great cardio workout that anyone can do! Expect easy-to-follow, dynamic choreography designed to sculpt, tone, and condition. 

Cardio Dance Party: Learn fun dance moves to popular dance hits that you can showcase on the dance floor! Every class is a PARTY!

Cardio Hip Hop - Using hip hop music and dance moves, this class will take your workout and your level of exhilaration through the roof! You don't have to have any dance experience to take the class, just be prepared to get loose and have a great time!

Core Training – This intense 30-minute class will use mat-based conditioning moves to target the abs, low back, and hips. Extra tools, such as a stability ball or weights, may be used to intensify the workout!

Club Spin – Come in for our new late night Spin class! We’ll turn on the black lights, amp up your favorite top 100 hits, and sweat through a workout that promises to strengthen your legs and glutes and increase your endurance!

Fac/Staff/Grad Classes: An energizing break for faculty, staff and graduate students during the lunch hour. These classes are open to faculty, staff, and graduate students only and are 45 minutes long.

Happy Hour:   T.G.I.F.! It's the end of the week and time to let loose and have some fun. Get your weekend off to a great start with a fun exercise class! Workouts and instructors vary weekly. Check online or studio postings for a schedule.

H.I.I.T: It is all about energy, intensity, and HIITing it hard! This class promises dynamic workouts with little-to-no equipment. Workouts alternate between short, super-intense bursts of activity that are matched with brief recovery periods.

Meditative Yoga: Beginning with the ancient art of yoga, a great way to strengthen and stretch mentally and physically, followed by guided mediation and finally individual practice. 

Outdoor Boot Camp: Are you ready to sweat?  Taking the traditional boot camp outdoors, using little equipment and mostly relying on body weight exercises. This class is more cardio intensive as it is not limited to a studio space.

Pilates: A mat-based workout that uses movements to improve posture, flexibility, strength, and body awareness. Pilates integrates body and mind to create a balanced form, while focusing on the body's core area: abs, glutes, hips and lower back.

Power Pilates– An exciting 20-minute class combines classic Pilates mat work with other core exercises to provide a workout that will leave your abs, legs, glutes, arms, and hips feeling toned and lengthened.

Power Yoga: This Americanized version of Ashtanga Yoga is a more dynamic, rigorous approach to traditional Yoga. Get the same mind/body benefits of Yoga while also promoting greater strength development.

Spinning®:  An aerobic exercise performed on a stationary bike. Spinning® is the global leader in indoor cycling and the W&M Rec Center is an official Spinning® Facility. Come experience this adrenaline pumping workout! 

Step: Otherwise known as “Freestyle Step”, this is a high-intensity workout using an adjustable platform with simple basic footwork. A fun and effective workout for all fitness levels!

Total Body Boxing: Emphasizes cardiovascular endurance and total-body functional strength, while teaching the basics of effective boxing form. Get ready for a power hour chock full of boxing moves, athletic drills, punches and kicks.

TRX Body Blast: Our newest edition to the TRX family, TRX Body Blast is an awesome workout that will strengthen and tone the entire body. This class is taught primarily on the TRX and to the beat of the music. Participants will become at ease with using the TRX and progress at their own level.

TRX Boot Camp – An intense workout that incorporates body weight strength training with our TRX bands paired with short bursts of high-intensity cardio that will strengthen and tone all the major muscle groups!

TRX Spin: A great cardio workout, spinning, with intense tone exercises using TRX suspension trainers, the original, best-in-class workout system that leverages gravity and your bodyweight to perform hundreds of exercises.

Vinyasa Yoga: A moderate to advanced intensity yoga class focusing on linking traditional postures to the breath to build internal heat. This flowing style of yoga promotes flexibility, muscular strength and muscular endurance.

Yoga:  This ancient art is a great way to get fit both mentally and physically. Utilizing stretching, breathing and strengthening movements, yoga is a perfect way to revitalize and energize your body.

Yogilates:  A combination of two of our most popular classes: Yoga and Pilates!

YoSpin: An innovative approach to total body condition.  Starting with spinning, this class give a great cardio workout, followed by a body toning and conditioning yoga class.

Zumba: Zumba fuses Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic workout system that will get you hooked!
