Digging Into History: Archaeology and Preservation of Virginia’s Heritage

Register for PROGRAM #15964

Working under the supervision of museum archaeologists, assist in the surveying, plotting, excavation and preservation of important historical sites and discover artifacts that range from primitive stone tools to Revolutionary-era pottery and Civil War buttons. You’ll get down on your hands and knees to take measurements, dig and sort artifacts, and catalog your findings in the woods and fields. Evening lectures provide the historical context surrounding the dig sites, while field trips take you to explore additional preserved locations and relevant museum exhibits so that you may experience the full historical discovery process from dirt to diorama. For active folks with a passion for community service!

Program involves extensive physical activity including periods working on hands and knees.
