City of Williamsburg to feature W&M events on local cable

(Williamsburg, VA) - The City of Williamsburg has established a partnership with the College of William & Mary to offer programming
content for Williamsburg and James City cable outlets. The William & Mary programming will include special events, master classes from the music department, campus forums and guest and faculty lecturers. The progrCity of Williamsburg Logoams will air on Channel 48 in both the City and James City County.

"The College of William & Mary is one of the city's greatest assets and resources," said Mayor Jeanne Zeidler. "One of Council's 2009/2010 Goals and Initiatives is to expand programming on Channel 48, so we approached the College in order to broaden our offerings -- on public affairs and civic engagement, but also on the arts and sciences. We are thrilled that we can partner with the college to broadcast to the entire community the kinds of world-class lectures and performances that the faculty and students offer."

To launch this partnership, the City will air U.S. Senator Jim Webb's (D-VA) keynote from the college's 2009 Charter Day ceremony beginning this weekend. The address will air on the City Channel 48 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday through Monday. The entire Charter Day program (approximately 2 hours) will air at 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays throughout February and March beginning Feb. 21st.

"There is an extraordinary speaker or performance on the William & Mary campus nearly every day of the year," said William & Mary president Taylor Reveley. "I'm delighted that we'll be able to share those visitors and events with the Williamsburg community more broadly through Channel 48."

William & Mary events will be presented periodically throughout the year. In early March watch for a broadcast of the Whitetop Mountain Band conducting a master class with students. The band specializes in the traditional bluegrass roots music of western Virginia.

The City of Williamsburg broadcasts community content on Cox Cable Channel 48. William & Mary programming will air along with the City's regular programming. That schedule includes live and repeat broadcasts of City and James City County government meetings, electronic bulletin board announcements and special programs. All programs for the City's Channel 48 may also be viewed live online .

In January the city aired a Reves Center foreign policy presentation by Former Ambassador Thomas Pickering, which continues to air in the City and James City County throughout the month February.
