Lauren Bayse '13 to serve as orientation speaker

As the countdown until the freshman move-in day nears its end, one rising senior at William & Mary is gearing up to make sure that the College’s newest students start their time at the school with enthusiasm and excitement.

Lauren Bayse ’13 will serve as this year’s upperclassman speaker for William & Mary’s orientation program, which begins Aug. 24.

Lauren Bayse '13Bayse will speak to approximately 1,628 new and transfer students that day about her own experiences at William & Mary and what they can expect as they begin their own time on campus.

A native of New Jersey, Bayse is studying government and Hispanic studies at the College. She spent last semester in Barcelona, Spain.

Bayse is highly involved in on-campus activities. She once served as an orientation aid, and she is currently a member of the Kappa Delta sorority and the mental health branch of Health Outreach Peer Educators.

When she was a new student herself, Bayse was pulled into the William & Mary community through a network of caring of upperclassmen, she said.

“Because of them, I immediately felt a connection to this campus and I have enjoyed every second I have spent here,” Bayse said. “It’s my turn now to pass this sense of community down to the incoming students and welcome them to what is, in my opinion, the greatest of college campuses.

“Upperclassmen set the tone for the school year, and I want that tone to be one of excitement and enthusiasm.”
