Kiplinger's: W&M a 'top value' among public colleges

For the second consecutive year, the university was ranked fourth on the magazine’s list of 100 best values public colleges “that deliver a stellar education at an affordable price.” Schools in Kiplinger’s top 100 were chosen from a pool of more than 500 public four-year colleges and universities. The rankings, according to the magazine, are based to cost, financial aid and academic quality, including admission and retention rates, student-faculty ratios and four- and six-year graduation rates.
“Schools like these on the Kiplinger 100 list prove graduates can enter the workforce with a great education—and without a huge cloud of debt,” said Janet Bodnar, editor of Kiplinger’s, in a press release.
The University of North Carolina took the top spot on the annual ranking, followed by the University of Florida and the University of Virginia. Other Virginia colleges on the list include James Madison University (19th), Virginia Tech (24th), University of Mary Washington (26th) and George Mason University (61st).
