Members of the College of William and Mary community will have new opportunities to explore the Historic Area thanks to a new initiative announced by The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.

The Colonial Williamsburg Experience for William & Mary provides free or discounted passes to the college community as well as a special hotel package just in time for Homecoming Weekend.

“Colonial Williamsburg has enjoyed a strong relationship with the college for many years,” said Colin Campbell, president of The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. “This program is a natural extension of that relationship that will appeal to the William & Mary community, creating a special opportunity for current students, their families, faculty, staff and alumni. We welcome this chance to work with like-minded partners in a way that will strengthen not only the relationship between the Foundation and the college, but also enhance the entire Historic Triangle as a destination by engaging and attracting visitors to our shared community.”

William & Mary President Taylor Reveley also lauded the initiative. “William & Mary and Colonial Williamsburg,” he noted, “are located as close together as two institutions can be, literally cheek-to-jowl, and we share countless common interests.  The college looks forward to this initiative as yet another of our many ties to Colonial Williamsburg, and we are grateful as always for our neighbor’s hospitality.”

Beginning Oct. 20 through the “Collegiate Pass” program, current students, faculty and staff will receive free passes to the Historic Area and seasonal discounts on special events such as shows in the Kimball Theatre and evening programs. Parents of current William & Mary students will receive a 50 percent discount on passes, and alumni will receive a 25 percent discount.  Students, alumni, faculty and staff may pick up their Collegiate Pass by showing their W&M ID card at the Colonial Williamsburg Regional Visitor Center or Lumber House Ticket location across from Palace Green. Alumni may purchase their discounted Collegiate Pass by showing their homecoming registration confirmation either at the Visitor Center or Lumber House Ticket Office. Parents may also pick up their Collegiate Pass at either location by bringing their student with a valid W&M ID.   Members of the community can find out details on the new Collegiate Pass program and the William and Mary Tribe package at www.colonialwilliamsburg.com/tribe.

Members of the William & Mary community and visitors to campus also will be eligible to take advantage of a special three-day, two-night Colonial Williamsburg hotel package. The “W&M Tribe Package” includes accommodations at the Williamsburg Lodge, breakfast each morning, a length-of-stay ticket for the Historic Area and Art Museums, a refillable souvenir mug and a $100 activities card. The package is $99 per person, per night in the summer, $106 per person, per night in the fall, and $125 per person, per night during the holiday season. For more information, call 1-800-447-8679 and ask for the W&M Tribe Package.

The initiative is a result of the work done by the William & Mary Tourism Task Force. The task force, which included staff and faculty members from departments across campus as well as representatives from the City of Williamsburg, Colonial Williamsburg and the Greater Williamsburg Chamber and Tourism Alliance, examined the college’s role in regional tourism.
