The College of William & Mary improved one spot in a national ranking of the top values in public colleges and universities.
According to rankings released by Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine Jan. 4, the College ranks as the fourth best value among the country's top 100 "four-year schools that combine outstanding education with economic value."
That ranking is up one spot from last year when the College was listed as the fifth best value in the nation. The College was listed fourth by Kiplinger's two years ago and has consistently performed well in rankings of best values. Last year, the College was ranked third-best value among public universities by the Princeton Review. The Kiplinger's rankings are included in the February 2010 print issue of the magazine, which hits newsstands today. They may also be found online at www.kiplinger.com/reports/best-college-values.
"Despite widespread state government budget cuts and shrinking endowments, this year's top 100 public schools continue to deliver strong academics at reasonable prices," said Janet Bodnar, editor of Kiplinger's, in a press release.
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill took the top spot again this year, followed by the University of Florida and the University of Virginia. Other Virginia institutions on the list include Virginia Tech (16), James Madison University (21), the University of Mary Washington (38), George Mason University (64).
