W&M alumna Glenn Close ('74) to receive star on Walk of Fame
Appearing now Glenn Close ('74) is currently seen in the television series "Damages." Close plays lead character, "Patty Hewes." The show is in its second season.

Some things stay the same... Close appeared in the College's production of "Common Glory." This circa 1974 picture shows Close (right) with a fellow cast member. Productions of the "Common Glory" ran at William and Mary between 1947 and 1976. In total the play was presented more than 1,500 times. Close (right)is pictured with one of the 74 other actors, singers and dancers that made-up the cast. William & Mary alumna Glenn Close (’74) will be lauded by the entertainment community Jan. 12, 2009 with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Close, an Emmy, Golden Globe and Tony Award winning actress, currently appears as "Patty Hewes" in the television series "Damages." She is also known for her roles in numerous Hollywood motion pictures including "101 Dalmations (1996)," "The Stepford Wives (2004)," and the 1987 thriller "Fatal Attraction."
While at William and Mary, Close - who majored in drama and anthropology- appeared in several university productions including "The Common Glory," "The Seagull" and "Anything Goes." Since her graduation she has supported the College through service as the honorary co-chair of the Alumni Association’s New York Auction. She held that post in 2004 with fellow alumnus Jon Stewart '84.
"Stars" are added each month to the famous pathway which stretches for 21 blocks at Hollywood Boulevard and Vine St. in Hollywood, Ca. Close’s is the first "star" to be unveiled on the Walk of Fame in 2009. Inductees are selected from across the entertainment field. Last year’s "star" recipients included actor Tim Robbins, country singing duo Brooks & Dunn and comedian/actor Howie Mandel.
