William and Mary Head Football Coach Jimmye Laycock announced the College’s signing of 10 prep players to National Letters of Intent Wednesday afternoon.

“I believe this year’s class is an outstanding group of student-athletes,” stated Laycock. “The staff did a tremendous job of addressing needs in some key areas. We are excited about getting the opportunity to work with these young men and anticipate they will play a key role in continuing the College’s great football tradition.”

The incoming freshman class is comprised of players from five states along the East Coast from Georgia to New Jersey. In addition to five signees from Virginia, the class also includes players from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Georgia. This year’s recruiting class consists of four linemen, one quarterback, one linebacker, one defensive end, one defensive back and a pair of wide receivers/defensive backs.

W&M returns 15 starters, including six all-conference performers, from last season’s team that posted a 7-4 record and finished the season ranked 20th nationally. The Tribe’s defense will be bolstered by the return of First-Team All-Colonial Athletics Association defensive end, Adrian Tracy, while the offense will feature reigning league Offensvie Rookie of the Year, Jonathan Grimes. Both Tracy and Grimes earned national accolades and will enter the season as two of the top players at their respective positions in the Football Championship Series.

The Tribe will open the 2009 season at Virginia on Sept. 5.
