Business faculty members present financial crisis forum, part 2
| April 16, 2009Faculty from the Mason School of Business discussed the status of the global fiscal crisis in a forum in late March. Mason Clinical Professor of Entrepreneurship and Private Equity Entrepreneurship Dick Ash moderated the event. He addressed the difficulty of assessing the financial risks in today’s markets.
“There’s no way you can analyze the risks when you don’t know the rules,” Ash said.
Panelists included Deborah Hewitt, Clinical Associate Professor Economics and Finance; John Merrick, Richard S. Reynolds Associate Professor of Business Economics & Finance; John Boschen, Brinkley-Mason Professor Economics & Finance; and Larry Ring, Chancellor Professor of Business Administration and Executive MBA Alumni Professor.
The forum also featured discussion on the global financial climate, Obama’s stimulus package, the local housing market and how retail businesses are fairing in the new economic climate.
Ring, a retail expert, warned consumers may not provide the spending necessary to initiate a recovery right away.
“The consumer, having learned to save, is probably not going to jump right back in - as some might think,” Ring predicted.
