Campus visits: dean of university libraries candidates

Provost Michael Halleran sent the following message to the campus community on Feb. 17, 2011 - Ed.

Over the next several weeks, candidates for the position of Dean of University Libraries will be visiting the campus.  Each one of them presents excellent credentials and backgrounds, and I am excited about their upcoming visits.  The search committee has done great work in coming up with this list of finalists.

In addition to meetings with various groups – faculty, Swem personnel, staff, deans, search committee members and administrators – each candidate will also hold a forum open to the entire campus community.  I realize that schedules are busy, but I hope you will be able to attend these sessions.  The times and dates for the sessions are as follows:

Steve Smith                  Tuesday, February 22 at 4:00 p.m., Tidewater B
Suzy Palmer                Tuesday, March 1 at 4:00 p.m., Tidewater A
Carrie Cooper              Thursday, March 3 at 4:00 p.m., Tidewater A
John Buschman           Tuesday, March 15 at 4:00 p.m., Tidewater B

You can access each candidate’s CV at http://www.wm.edu/librarydeansearch/.  A link to a “candidate evaluation form” will be available the day before each candidate’s visit.  I invite your comments, as they will be valuable to the President and me in selecting the next Dean of University Libraries.   Please note that although the evaluation form requires a login with W&M, this is only to ensure that it is limited to members of the W&M community; the comments themselves are anonymous.  Thank you for your participation in this important process.

I hope you will be able to attend.

Michael R. Halleran
