I regret to inform you of the recent passing of Mary Ellen Magary.  Mrs. Magary, 86, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away suddenly on September 4, 2008, at home in Bethesda, MD.

Mrs. Magary was born in Bayonne, NJ, to Daniel and Julia McCarthy, and raised on Staten Island, NY.  She married Arthur E. Magary in 1949, and later relocated to Virginia, moving to Williamsburg in 1958.  She was an active member of the parish of the Church of St. Bede, and active in the PTA at Walsingham Academy.  Mrs. Magary became the secretary to the fledgling Geology Department at the College of William and Mary in 1967, and remained in that capacity until her retirement in 1988.  As a retiree, Mrs. Magary became an active member of the Young At Heart Club at St. Bede’s Catholic Church.  She moved to Bethesda, MD in 2005 to be nearer to her daughter and her family.

Mrs. Magary is survived by her daughter and son in law, Janice A. and H. Michael McGahey of Bethesda MD, her son Arthur E. Magary (Gene) of Centreville MD, her son and daughter in law, Bryan E. and Kimberly C. Magary of Virginia Beach, VA; her grandchildren Brian M. McGahey of Baltimore MD, Caitlin A. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 1 pm on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008 at the Catholic Campus Ministry Chapel on Richmond Road, interment to follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery on Henry Street.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to your local volunteer rescue squad.

I know you join me in expressing our deepest sympathy to Mrs. Magary's daughter and family.
