
Microsoft has finally made a Keyboard Layout Creator available, so if you don't like my transliterated keyboard, you can download the software here and make one yourself. CLICK HERE to see what my transliterated Russian keyboard looks like. To install the keyboard, follow the steps below.
Transliterated Russian (Cyrillic) on Windows Vista
Download this INSTALLER FILE and unzip it to install the Custom Russian Keyboard for Windows Vista. Once you unzip it, run the Setup file and the Transliterated Russian Keyboard will install automatically.Transliterated Russian (Cyrillic) on Windows XP
CLICK HERE for a printable version of the instructions before continuing:- Download the RussianXP.zip file to your Desktop.
- Double-click on the RussianXP.zip file to open WinZip.
- Extract all of the files and folders in the RussianXP.zip file to your Desktop.
- On the Desktop, you should now see a folder called RussianXP. Open the folder and double-click on the Layout02.msi file to install the keyboard.
- Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options.
- Select the Languages tab in this window and then select Details.
- From the Settings tab, select Add
- From the Add Input Language window, select Russian from the Input Language pulldown menu and Russian (translit) from the Keyboard Layout pulldown menu.
- Click OK to return to the Input Languages window, and then select Preferences.
- Select Language Bar under the Preferences heading in this window and make sure the "Show Language Bar on Desktop" button is checked.
- Keep clicking OK until all windows are closed.
- That's it. You should now see a little blue button like this
somewhere on the taskbar on the bottom right of your desktop. Clicking
on it will give you a list of all character sets installed. Selecting
(Russian) while using an application like MS Word or Internet Explorer will
allow you to type in Russian.
Handy Tip:
If you need to share a document containing non-Latin or non-standard characters, or if you'd like to make sure your original formatting is retained, a good solution is to create a PDF file with Adobe Acrobat. Learn more here...
