Russian at William & Mary
Russian Study Abroad at St. Petersburg University
Located on the banks of the Neva River, at the very center of the 18th-century historic district, St. Petersburg State University is the oldest and one of the most prestigious universities in Russia, as well as the site of William and Mary's six-week intensive Russian language summer program in Russia.
The William and Mary summer program at St. Petersburg University combines a six-week intensive course in Russian for students at all levels, from absolute beginners to advanced, with a course on the literature and culture of St. Petersburg taught by a William and Mary faculty member who also serves as the program director. Students' study of Russian language and culture is supplemented by faculty-led tours of historical and cultural sites (e.g., The Hermitage and Winter Palace, Rusian Museum, Summer Palaces of the Tsars, Pushkin and Dostoevsky apartment-museums, etc.) in and around the city, excursions to the ancient Russian city of Novgorod, and several days in Moscow. Students live near the university in Russian student dormitories or with Russian families.
The comprehensive fee for the program includes tuition, room and board (2 meals a day), city and suburban excursions, and hotel accomodations in Moscow. For more information about study opportunities in Russia, including application deadlines, costs, financial aid, etc., please speak to a faculty member in Russian and visit the Reves Center pages..
