Freie Universität Berlin BEST Program

Freie Universität Berlin (FU) is pleased to announce the creation of a new program open to qualified undergraduate students, starting in Fall 2005. Please visit the website at www.fu-berlin.de/fubest for full details. The new FU-BEST (FU Berlin European Studies) program will be modelled largely on the U.S. academic calendar (with a Sept.-Dec. Fall Semester and a January-April Spring Semester).

All students will be enrolled in mandatory, intensive German language training and will choose additional courses (taught in English) from a menu covering political science, history, cinema studies, comparative literature/theater, sociology/psychology, and art history. Participation by selected German students in these courses will aim to build intercultural bridges and remove FU-BEST participants from what would otherwise be a more "insular" experience. Excursions and field-trips will be part of the program, along with a number of cultural events. Participants will live in single occupancy studio apartments or with host families. Students with adequate language skills can add the German-style Sommersemester (April-July) at the FU to their studies as well.

In addition to the enrollment of qualified students, we also very much look forward to building a contact and partnership network with interested U.S. and Canadian faculty and institutions of higher education. Please contact us at fubest@fu-berlin.de if interested in exploring the possibilities.
