To the William and Mary Community,

I am delighted to announce that the College's Logo Committee is up and running, having received our official charge from President Nichol to recommend a new logo for William and Mary . Already the committee has received a number of ideas and suggestions, and we hope this website will be a ready source of information on the committee's progress in the coming weeks.

On behalf of the Logo Committee, I encourage your participation and welcome any thoughts or suggestions you might have related to our work. The Committee has already reached some conclusions. We have decided that we will accept the President’s offer of considering a mascot idea in addition to a logo. But first things first. It is our belief that the logo should be our first determination. With that in mind, if you have not yet done so and you wish to submit a logo idea, we will accept those until April 29. To guide our decision making on the logo, selection criteria have been identified. Our goal is to have a recommendation on the logo formalized by early Fall.

The logo will be judged on its ability to:

1. be easily recognizable
2. elicit a common sentiment and meaning
3. be easily remembered
4. evoke positive feelings
5. elicit pride among members of the community
6. reinforce our traditions
7. reflect the high standards, spirit, and character of William and Mary

So, if you have logo ideas, send them to me by April 29 at wssadl@wm.edu. And feel free to send in your mascot ideas as well. In all likelihood, however, it will be Fall before we have an established deadline for their submission.

As we have other information from the Committee, it will be posted here. Our goal is to make this process as transparent as possible, so check back for updates!
