Sculpture Garden

This sculpture garden, placed in memory of Mildred Johannsen Phillips, is sheltered in a nook on the east side of Phi Beta Kappa Hall.

At the entrance to the garden is a Sculptured Juniper (genus Juniperus). Within the garden is a Weeping Cedar-of-Lebanon (Cedrus libani pendula, pictured at right) and a Cutleaf Japanese Red Maple (Acer palmatum dissectum).
Adjacent to the sculpture garden, on the edge of Barksdale Field, is a grove of Cryptomeria (Cryptomeria japonica), and a planting of Dogwoods, including the Japanese Dogwood (Cornus kousa) pictured above on the left. Recently a variegated Box Elder (Acer negundo 'Variegatum', above right) was added.
Along the eastern wall of Phi Betta Kappa Hall stands a pair of Dawn Redwoods, which are progeny of the original pair planted at the foot of the Sunken Garden. Pictured on the left is one of the sculptures within the sculpture garden.
