Crim Dell

The Crim Dell bridge area houses Asiatic Bamboo
and Wax Myrtle (Myrica cerifera).

The Crim Dell Bridge was a gift from the Class of 1964. In the early 1960's, College President Davis Paschall fought against plans to build a library on the land where Crim Dell is now. Swem Library was instead built at the center of the "New Campus." Dr. Paschall officially dedicated Crim Dell in May of 1966.
A Sweetbay variety (Magnolia virginiana australis, right) grows in Crim Dell Meadow, and several Southern Magnolias (Magnolia grandiflora, far right) can be found around the pond.
Crim Dell Meadow proviedes a natural setting for a sculpture entitled Spring.
A Beech (Fagus grandifolia, far left) that stands near the pond carries years of carvings.
Several other donated sculptures adorn the landscape.
