Howard graduated from Florida State University in 1987 and William & Mary Law School in 1990. He ran cross country and track and field as an undergraduate, and competed as a professional triathlete during law school.

Howard is a sole practitioner in the Los Angeles suburb of Agoura Hills who has been identified by various national newspapers as one of the leading sports lawyers in the United States. He was profiled in September 2006 by USA Today in a feature article that highlighted his representation of athletes in all types of disputes, particularly the defense of athletes charged with doping offenses. His current clients include 2006 Tour de France champion Floyd Landis, 2004 Olympic gold medalist Tyler Hamilton, and 2000 Olympic gold medalist Marion Jones. He has represented professional athletes, Olympic athletes, and amateur athletes in disputes involving doping, endorsements, unauthorized use of name and likeness, salary issues, team selection issues, and other matters.

Howard is at the forefront of many cutting edge legal issues that affect athletes, winning cases that have set precedents that have benefited the athletic community. Because of this, he is a sought after expert on sports law issues and is regularly quoted in major newspapers and sports magazines, and appears on national and international television and radio shows.

I found the Law School faculty to be very engaging and accessible. As my practice interests were somewhat different from the mainstream, I found it very useful to discuss various practice area options with the faculty. The Law School’s curriculum gave me an excellent foundation in critical legal thinking and oral presentation skills.

I was a professional triathlete during my first two years in law school, and that has helped me immensely in my current practice which focuses on the representation of Olympic and professional athletes. For those who enjoy the outdoors, Williamsburg is a tremendous place to live.
