Visiting Application ProcedureStudents attending other law schools may apply to William & Mary for visiting status. A very limited number of students may enroll for credits to be applied toward the degree requirements from another institution. If you seek visiting status, you must obtain approval from your degree-granting school. Nonmatriculating students may not transfer to degree status. Visiting student applicants must have a letter from the dean of their law school, granting permission for the applicant to attend William & Mary Law School and stating that credits earned at William & Mary will be applied toward the candidate's degree requirements at his or her degree-granting institution. The applicant's personal statement (Question 33) must indicate reason(s) for seeking visiting student status at William & Mary Law School. Visiting student applications are due by July 1. The steps required to complete the visiting student application process are listed below: (1) APPLICATION FORM Applicants may use one of the following methods to submit their application by July 1:
(2) APPLICATION FEE Submit a $50 (U.S. dollars) nonrefundable application fee by July 1. If applying by mail, include a check or money order payable to the College of William & Mary. If applying electronically, make credit/debit card payment through LSAC. (3) PERSONAL STATEMENT AND OPTIONAL ESSAY Submit a personal statement indicating your reasons for seeking visiting student status at William & Mary Law School (Question 33) and, if you choose, an optional essay (Question 34). (4) LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION Submit two letters of recommendation by July 1. One letter should be from a faculty member of your current law school. You may submit letters of recommendation with your application, use the LSAC Letter of Recommendation Service or the recommenders may send their letter directly to: William & Mary Law School (5) LETTER OF GOOD STANDING AND PERMISSION FROM DEGREE GRANTING SCHOOL Submit a letter of good standing from the dean of the law school in which you are currently enrolled indicating that you are eligible to continue your studies for the semester for which you seek admission. The letter from the dean of the school must also grant permission for the applicant to attend William & Mary Law School and must state that credits earned at William & Mary will be applied toward the candidate's degree requirements at his or her degree-granting institution. (6) LSAT REPORT AND ACADEMIC TRANSCRIPTS Make arrangements to have a copy of your LSAT score and all undergraduate, graduate and law school transcripts sent to William & Mary Law School. The Law School Data Assembly Service (LSDAS) subscription fee is valid for five years and individuals can update their file and request a new LSDAS report without re-registering for the LSDAS service. Visiting student applicants must request updated transcripts with spring semester grades and, if available, class rank. (7) APPLICATION FOR VIRGINIA IN-STATE TUITION PRIVILEGES Applicants claiming entitlement to in-state status must complete the Application for Virginia In-State Tuition Privileges and mail to the Office of the University Registrar as printed on the form. PREVIOUS APPLICANTS: If you submitted an application to William & Mary during the prior two years, your application materials should be on file and the supplementary items may be used to complete a new application for visiting student status.
