Topical Services & Reporters
Note that the law library holds several looseleaf services that cover international issues in a section of the service, as well as looseleafs that treat specific aspects of international law. The latter category includes:

  • European Union Law Reporter
    • Reports on European Union laws and treaties that affect the EU. Included in this reporter are treaty texts, reports of activities of the Court of Justice, and an EU Update volume.

  • International Trade Reporter

    • This reporter is comprised of three parts - Current Reports, an Export Reference Manual, and an Import Reference Manual. The Current Reports volumes contain weekly summaries of topical information such as the status of domestic legislation with international trade implications, synopses of World Trade Organization resolutions, and summaries of foreign trade policy.

W&M Electronic Databases

LEXIS-NEXIS: The International Law Library (INTLAW) includes treaties, case law, and legislation from the U.S. and other countries. Selected secondary sources include journal articles (e.g., Harvard International Law Journal 1993-.) and newsletters (e.g, American Society of International Law Newsletter 1993-).

The International and Other Countries' Laws Practice-Area Materials include current U.S. legislation and implementing acts, regulations, and court decisions. Selected treaty sources are available, including United States Treaties and Other International Act. Secondary sources include U.S. journal articles (e.g., Fletcher Forum of World Affairs Select Coverage 1991-; Full Coverage 1994-); and newspapers (e.g., European and C.I.S. Newspapers (Coverage varies by source)). It also contains materials organized by subtopic, such as international environmental law and intellectual property.




World Wide Web Resource

U.S. Department of State
The State Department is the foreign affairs agency for the United States. Its website provides information about US international policy and programs delineated by topic. The website also contains the Department's Current Treaty Ations, which indicates recent changes that affect treaties to which the United States is a party.

United Nations
The United Nations website contains a searchable, although incomplete, database of treaties dating back to the inception of the UN. The website also links to various secretariats and UN program webpages, each with topic-specific content, including relevant UN treaties.

Fletcher Multilaterals Project
The Multilaterals Project website, at the Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy, contains the texts of international multilateral treaties, including treaties in the fields of human rights, the environment, commerce and trade, and other areas. Although most of these date from the second half of the 20th century, the collection also includes historical texts, such as the 1648 Treaty of Westphalia and the League of Nations Covenant.

Find a Treaty
This is the law library's own treaty research guide. It contains links to various online treaty sources and indicates which treaty series in print contain which types of treaties.

ABA Section of International Law and Practice
An American Bar Association section that provides a national forum for lawyers working in all areas of international law.

American Society of International Law
The ASIL web site contains links to resources such as the organization's Electronic Research Guide, a comprehensive Internet research tool that is broken into subtopics such as human rights law.

The International Law Institute
ILI is an independent research and education center. Although the Institute's website does not contain much substantive material (such as treaty texts), the Useful Resources section contains many links to sites that do provide such information.
