General Information

The Law Library offers document delivery services to members of the W&M law school community and alumni, Virginia attorneys and other libraries. These services include providing photo duplication of materials available at this library, or loans of circulating books, microforms and videos to other libraries.

Books and photocopies will be mailed within two working days, usually sooner. All photocopies are provided electronically -- materials are scanned and put into pdf format. A link to the document is e-mailed to the recipient.

Inquiries should be addressed to the Interlibrary Loan Supervisor in the circulation office. The ILL supervisor is available for consultation Monday through Friday, 8:00 - 5:00. She may also be reached by telephone at 757-221-3259 or by e-mail to ramazz|at|wm.edu.

Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan services are offered to William & Mary School of Law faculty, staff and students only. These services comprise borrowing books and obtaining materials required for academic and research purposes and presently unavailable at this library, and lending materials to other libraries. All such services are pursuant to the stipulations specified within the Interlibrary Loan Code of the American Library Association.

Non-law students and other patrons should contact their own academic or public libraries for similar services.

Although books can arrive quickly, it is best to allow 7-10 days for the receipt of books from Virginia libraries; items requested from out-of-state locations may take longer. Upon receipt, interlibrary loans will be retained on the "hold" shelf in front of Room 132-I. Most books are loaned for 3-4 weeks, with renewals at the discretion of the lending library.

The recipient is required to sign for the item upon pickup and pay any costs at that time. Although we are a free, reciprocal library, some out-of-state libraries impose charges for both books and photocopies, and usually for fax services. Whenever possible, the Interlibrary Loan Department endeavors to obtain loans free of charge.

Digital Document Delivery

Document Delivery is provided free of charge to non-profit organizations, including federal, state, and local government units, libraries affiliated with non-profit institutions, and other non-profit entities. William & Mary non-law faculty, commercial organizations (including law firms, corporations and other for-profit entities) and other individuals are charged for Document Delivery services. Free reciprocal agreements with out-of-state academic institutions are welcomed. A fee schedule is available upon request from the ILL office (phone: 757-221-3259; e-mail.)
