Collections:
U.S. Government Depository
As a selective depository for U.S. government publications, the Law Library receives directly from the Government Printing Office numerous materials important to a law library. These include Congressional bills, selected Congressional hearings and reports, federal agency administrative decisions, the Code of Federal Regulations, the Congressional Record, the Federal Register, the United States Code, and the United States Reports. We also receive a variety of periodicals and books in the areas of criminal justice, federal taxation, sentencing guidelines, commerce, military law, and foreign relations.
The central university (Swem) library receives even more items through the federal depository program, and permits most of its documents to circulate outside their library. As a depository for Virginia materials, Swem also receives a variety of materials from Virginia governmental agencies. Today many federal government publications are available via the internet. Probably the best way to access this information is through the Government Printing Office website, known as GPO Access (www.gpoaccess.gov) Visiting specific administrative, judicial and legislative websites directly both federal and state - also provides access to a multitude of government documents. We recommend Google or another search engine for locating government information on the web.
