In Memoriam: Chancellor Professor Richard A. Williamson

The Law School community was greatly saddened by the death of Dick Williamson on June 22 in Williamsburg. He joined the Marshall-Wythe faculty in 1970, became a full professor in 1975, and Chancellor Professor in 1986. He also served as the College’s Coordinator of Legal Affairs for the past ten years. Upon his retirement in April of this year, the Board of Visitors recognized his extraordinary contributions during his 37 years of service to the Law School and the College, and conferred upon him the title of Chancellor Professor of Law, Emeritus.  Read the full story ...

Loan Repayment Assistance Program Announces 2007 Awards

The Loan Repayment Assistance Program selection committee announced in February that six members of the Class of 2006 will receive loan repayment assistance, and, in addition, three graduates (two from the Class of 2005 and one from the Class of 2004) have had their awards from 2006 renewed. Established in 2004, in honor of Professor John Levy, the program assists graduates with loan repayment who work for private non-profit organizations or government employers.  Read the full story ...

Professor Paul Marcus of William & Mary Law School and Mary Sue Backus '01 of the University of Oklahoma Law School recently completed a comprehensive analysis of media coverage of indigent defense issues at the behest of the National Committee on the Right to Counsel.
