1968

Frank Morton III JD '68 will retire in September 2004 after 31 years as County Attorney for James City County .

1971

H. Duncan Garnett Jr. BA '68 JD 71 was elected President of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association for 2004-2005.

1973

Paul Belvin JD '73 was appointed by the Commission as an Associate Director in the Division of Corporation Finance.

1976

L. Robert McMaster BS '64 JD '76 has been selected to receive the Presidential Rank of Meritorious Executive.

Debra Prillaman BA '73 JD '76 was awarded a Women in Law Award for 2004 by the Outstanding Women Award Selection Committee.

Duncan Smith JD '76 is an attorney with Blank Rome in Washington , DC after a 34-year career in the Coast Guard and Coast Guard Reserve, retiring as a Rear Admiral.

1980

J. Stanley Payne, '80 has been appointed Canaveral Port Authority Director and chief executive officer.

1981

Robert Delano, Jr. BA '78 JD '81 received the Silver Beaver Award, the highest honor that can be bestowed upon an adult volunteer by a local Boy Scout Council.

John Easter JD '81 joined Williams Mullen as a Partner in he real estate section.

1984

John "Jack" Owen III MLT '84 was selected as the "Outstanding Volunteer Attorney for 2004" by the Executive Service Corps of Western Pennsylvania.

Melanie Morgan-Adams BA '84 JD '87 joined Employment Practices Solutions in their Dallas office as a Consultant.

J. Kevin McDuffie JD '87 was appointed as a Municipal Judge in Paterson , NJ

1988

Gregory Paw JD '88 is currently serving in Baghdad , Iraq , in the Regime Crime Advisors Office, providing counsel to a special commission of Iraqis concerning the prosecution of Saddam Hussein and other high-ranking members of the former Iraqi regime.  He is on leave from his position as chief of the narcotics section at the U.S. Attorney s Office in Philadelphia while working on this assignment.

Leo P. Rogers JD '88 was named the recipient of the Local Government Attorneys of Virginia 2004 Cherin Award. He has also been appointed as County Attorney for James City County , Virginia .

1990

Christopher Abel JD '90 joined Troutman Sanders LLP in Norfolk as a member of the transportation, complex litigation and labor and employment practice groups.

1991

Christopher Anders JD '91 Legislative Counsel to the American Civil Liberties Union joined the church-state debate in 2004.

Andrew M. Condlin JD '91 received the 2004 Local Bar Leader of the Year award at the Virginia State Bar annual meeting.

Phillip Hairston JD '91 was appointed by Richmond Circuit Court Judges to the general district court vacancy.

1993

Beth Kurowski Bunnell JD '93 was made a full equity partner of Jones, Day, Reavis & Pogua in Shanghai , China , she and her husband Donald P. Bunnell JD '94 are expecting their first child in September.

1994

Susan Beth Comparato JD '94 was promoted to General Counsel for XL Capital Assurance, Incorporated.

Donald P. Bunnell JD '94 started his own company, Synthesis Energy Systems (SES), developing clean coal projects in China and the US using environmentally friendly technology. He and his wife Beth (Kurowski) Bunnell JD '93 are expecting their first child in September.

1995

Brian A. Fratkin JD '95 was elected as a Partner with McGuireWoods LLP in their Richmond office.

Erica E. Beardsley JD '95 was elected as a Partner with Watt, Tieder, Hoffar & Fitzgerald

1996 

Brian Goebel JD '96 has rejoined Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher as of counsel in the litigation and public policy practice groups.

James Harvey JD '96 was named by the Norfolk and Portsmouth Bar Association the recipient of the 2004 Walter E. Hoffman Community Service Award.

Ramsey Taylor JD '96 has joined the Law Department of Saudi ARAMCO in Dhahran.

Sherman Toppin JD '96 is running for President of the Barrister's Association of Philadelphia. He currently has his own law practice in Philadelphia .

1997

Paul McGowan JD '97 has been selected to join a delegation of experts to lecture on international property rights in Beirut , Lebanon , in support of its accession to the World Trade Organization.

Tiffany Wilson JD '97 was elected president of the Girl Scouts of the Washington Rock Council, an organization that serves 7,800 girls in 24 municipalities.

1998

Kevin J. Rasch JD '98 was appointed as Legal Counsel for the Governor's Office in Connecticut .

Anthony R. Smith JD '98 is one of five candidates seeking Ward seats on the Homewood City Council in Birmingham , Alabama .

Melvin E. Williams JD '98 has joined the Roanoke firm of Johnson, Ayers & Matthews as an associate.

1999

Elizabeth Sumner Gordan '99 has joined the law firm of Moore & Van Allen in their Charleston , SC office where she will practice employment and litigation law.

Robert E Chandler JD '99 has joined Nixon Peabody as an associate in the business litigation group.

Douglas Dziak JD '99 is engaged to be married to Leigh Anne Mosby on July 3, 2005 .

2000

Paul Dechary JD '00 joined Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch in their San Diego , CA office as an Associate.

Kindra L. Gromelski '00 and Lt. Karl Kirkeby were engaged on July 6, 2004 and are planning a March 19, 2005 wedding at the USNA in Annapolis , Md.

Theodore Hunt JD '00 and Carrie Schneider JD '00 were married on April 17 th , 2004 .

2001

Warren Pearson JD '01 was appointed as an assistant attorney general in the civil litigation unit for the state of Florida in Tallahassee .

Robert A. Fisher JD '01 was presented the 2004 Sally and William Van Allen Public Service Award honoring professionals who have made extraordinary and consistent contributions to public service.

Jonathan Bray Reed JD '01 has joined the Commercial Section at Kaufman & Canoles in Norfolk , Virginia where he will be focusing on corporate transactions.

Thomas G. Voekler JD '01 with the firm of Hirschler Fleischer has joined the firm's business section.

2002 

Stewart Wetchler JD '02 was the 2004-2005 recipient of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals fellowship to support research in the area of healthcare policy.

Eric V.T. Nakano JD '02 started his own law practice, Law Office of Eric Nakano, in 2003, focusing on family law, criminal defense and probate.
