The William & Mary Summer Law Program in Madrid,
begun in 1988, provides you the opportunity to live and study in one
of Europe's most exciting cities. Madrid reflects the varied past
of the Spanish people, its rich artistic heritage, and its special cultural
features, such as bullfighting and flamenco dancers. Parks offer boating,
fishing, tennis, horseback riding, and simple strolling. The night
life of Madrid is a unique experience. From Madrid, the many other
historic cities and regions of Spain are easily explored on weekend
trips.
Through the summer program, American law students have access not
only to prominent Spanish law professors, most with experience in American law schools, but also to expert Spanish law
practitioners in government and private practice. Classes are taught
in English by experienced Spanish law professors and William & Mary
Law School faculty. The program is hosted by the Fundacion Universitaria
San Pablo - Centro de Estudios Universitarios (CEU), a leading Spanish
cultural foundation that runs university centers in Madrid, Barcelona,
and Valencia. Every year, a few select law students and/or graduates from several
Spanish law schools attend classes and social activities with the American law students in the
program.
In 2007, 95 students, including 34 from William & Mary,
attended the Madrid Program. These students represented 45 law schools
from across the United States. In addition, five Spanish law students
participated in the program. Join us in 2008 for
our 21st summer in Spain!
