Frequently Asked Questions
1. Do you accept credit cards?
We do not accept credit cards. Checks or money orders
should be made payable to Summer Study Abroad.
2. Can I get financial aid through William & Mary?
The Student Financial Aid Office at the College of William & Mary
will process Stafford and private educational loans for William &
Mary students only. In order for a visiting student to receive
loan funds, both Stafford and private, the home institution
(the institution which will grant your degree) must perform
all loan processing.
3. May I photocopy the application form?
Yes, you may photocopy the application form.
4. Must I live in the dorm?
If you want to make your own housing arrangements, you may
do so. However, please be aware that our office is not set
up to help you do this. We recommend that you live in the
dormitory unless there are compelling reasons for you to
live off campus. A large part of the study abroad experience
is the interaction with other students; this interaction
is greatly reduced for those who do not live in the dorm.
5. What is the cost for my spouse to go?
A spouse pays the same room and board fee that a participating
student pays if living in the dorm in a single room. Please
note that almost all of the rooms are single rooms. Only
one or two double rooms are available each year. They are
available on a first-come, first-served basis to married
couples only.
6. Are most of the participants in your programs William
and Mary students?
The majority of participants each year are from a variety
of law schools throughout the U.S. About 20 to 35%
of the participants in the program are William & Mary
students. In 2007, 95 students, including 34 from William & Mary,
attended the Madrid Program. These students represented
45 law schools from across the United States. In addition,
five Spanish law students attended classes and participated
in the program activities.
7. How will my photo be used?
Participants must send us one small (1" x 2") photo; it will
be used to make a 'facebook' to help faculty and students
get to know everyone's names more quickly.
