Professor Ahumada authored the book Constitutional Jurisdiction in Europe: Political and Theoretical Foundations (2005). She has lectured in various countries in Europe and Latin America and in the Beijing University of Foreign Studies. From 2001 to 2004, she was Academic Director of the EU-China Legal and Judicial Program (Lawyer Training) in Madrid. Professor Ahumada began teaching in our program in 2004. Enrique ALONSO GARCÍA Consejero Permanente de Estado (Permanent Councillor of State). Former Professor of Law and UNESCO Chair for the Environment, Universidad Rey Juan Carlos and Monterey Institute of International Studies, he now only participates occasionally and exceptionally in congresses, seminars, workshops, conferences or professional courses; Visiting Lecturer, Harvard Law School, 1992-94; J.D., S.J.D., Complutense University of Madrid; LL.M., University of Virginia. Ex-Director General of Nature Conservation in Spain, Professor Alonso was head of the National Fish & Wildlife, National Parks, National Forests, and National Marine Sanctuaries Services. He has also been Senior Of Counsel at Baker & McKenzie, and Chief Negotiator for the Spanish Government and the EU on international environmental conventions. Professor Alonso has taught in our Madrid summer law program since its inception in 1988. José M. de AREILZA Professor of Law and Jean Monnet Chair, Instituto de Empresa Business School. Professor Areilza served as Advisor to the Spanish Prime Minister on European and North American affairs (1996-2000). Currently he is Vice-Dean of the Law Department at Instituto de Empresa Business School in Madrid. He was visiting professor at William & Mary in 2005. Professor Areilza began teaching in the William & Mary summer law program in 1996 and he is Academic Co-Director. Pablo GARCÍA MEXÍA Lecturer, Constitutional Law, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. LL.B., Ph.D., Universidad Complutense de Madrid; Diploma in English Law, University of Kent; Visiting Research Fellow, Harvard Law School. Professor Mexía, in addition to teaching law, is Letrado de las Cortes Generales (Legal Advisor to the Spanish Parliament). He is co-founder of Syntagma, Center of Strategic Studies, a private think-tank specializing in legal and good governance issues. Professor Mexía is an international consultant and has served as Secretary General of the Madrid Regional Parliament. He has taught in the Madrid summer law program since 1997. Guillermo GUERRA MARTÍN Professor, Commercial and Corporate Law, Universidad Rey Juan Carlos. LL.B., Universidad Complutense de Madrid; Ph.D., Universidad Rey Juan Carlos; Visiting Researcher and Visiting Scholar, Harvard Law School; Ricercatore Straniero, Università di Bologna. Professor Guerra authored the book The Governance of US Public Corporations: Its Influence in the Reform Movement of European Law (2003) and has published several legal articles about corporate law and securities markets and takeovers. Since 2005, he has been an independent advisor to the Spanish law firm Ramon & Cajal. Professor Guerra began teaching in the summer law program in 2001. Javier GUILLÉN CARAMÉS Professor, Administrative and EU Law, Universidad Rey Juan Carlos. LL.B., Ph.D., Universidad Complutense de Madrid; Visiting Researcher, Harvard Law School. Professor Guillén has served as Legal Advisor to the Spanish Parliament on Constitutional and Public Administration Affairs. In law practice, he has been involved in the areas of administrative, consumer protection, EU, and constitutional law. He has published extensively in the fields of administrative law, EU law, consumer law, and antitrust law. Professor Guillén joined the William & Mary summer law program in 1998 and is now Academic Co-Director. María LÓPEZ-CONTRERAS GONZÁLEZ Professor, EU Law, Instituto de Empresa Business School. LL.B., Universidad de León; Diploma in High European Legal Studies, College of Europe; Licence Speciale en Droit Europeen, Universite Libre de Bruxelles. While in private practice, Professor López-Contreras concentrated on anti-trust, intellectual property, media, and EU law. She joined the faculty of the Instituto de Empresa in 2002, where she teaches European and National Media, Anti-trust, Intellectual Property, Public Procurement, and EU Law. In 2005, she became the PricewaterhouseCoopers/IE Chair on the Public Sector. Professor López-Contreras has taught in the Madrid program since 1992. María Gracía RUBIO DE CASAS Professor, EU Law, Universidad Politecnica de Madrid; Adjunct Professor, International Securities Regulations, Instituto de Empresa Business School. LL.B., Universidad Complutense de Madrid; LL.M., Harvard University. Professor Rubio served as Legal Advisor to the Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores (Securities and Exchange Commission). She leads the Finance and Securities area in Baker & McKenzie’s Madrid office, where she advises Spanish and international investment services firms providing local and cross-border financial services in Europe. In 2006, she was appointed by the European Commission to the European Securities Markets Expert Group to advise the Commission on the reform of securities markets regulations. Professor Rubio first taught in the summer program in 1992. Christie S. WARREN Senior Lecturer in Law; Director, Program in Comparative Legal Studies and Post-Conflict Justice, William & Mary Law School; Curriculum Director, Constitution-Building Project, International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance, Stockholm, Sweden. B.A., UC Berkeley; J.D., UC Davis. Since 1995 Professor Warren has served as an advisor to constitutional, judicial and legal development projects in 34 countries throughout the world. She has authored articles and chapters on women and Islam, polygyny, Islamic commercial law, the international administration of justice, and ethical considerations involved in the delivery of legal services to the poor in developing countries. Rebecca G. HULSE Adjunct Professor of Law; Assistant Director, The Center for Legal & Court Technology, William & Mary Law School. B.A., Connecticut College; M.A., J.D., Harvard University. Professor Hulse has worked as the Deputy Director for China and Hong Kong at the U.S. Trade Represntative in D.C., and as a media lawyer in Boston. She is the on-site Director of the 2008 Madrid summer law program.
