W&M Law Summer Study Programs

Academic Credit

The William & Mary Summer Law Program in Madrid is ABA-approved and functions as an extension of William & Mary Law School's Williamsburg campus.  Class meetings and duration of classes meet the requirements of the American Bar Association and the Association of American Law Schools.

Regular class attendance is expected. Student performance will be measured primarily by final examinations. Grades used by William & Mary are A+, A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D, and F.  The maximum course load is six semester hours, with one additional credit possible by enrolling in the optional General Practice Externship.  William & Mary Law School gives the same credit as if these courses were offered on the Williamsburg campus.

Acceptance of any credit or grade for any course taken in this program is subject to determination by your home school.  You should clear this matter with your Dean's office before applying to the program.  Participation in a foreign summer law program may not necessarily result in accelerating your graduation. If interested in acceleration, consult your home school to review this issue in light of ABA Standard 304.

A summer grade report is available on-line after completion of the program. An official transcript will be sent to your law school upon your written request ($5 fee per transcript).
