Attendance Policy

Regular attendance in all courses is required. A student who is compelled by the instructor to withdraw from a course because of unsatisfactory attendance will receive a grade of "W" for the course.

An instructor may set specific attendance requirements for a course, e.g., permitting no more than two unexcused absences.  These requirements must be announced at the beginning of the semester, preferably in writing, prior to the end of the Add/Drop period.  If an instructor finds that a student is in violation of the stated requirements, the instructor should notify the Associate Dean for Administration to request that the student be dropped from the course and receive a "W."  A faculty member who is grading class participation also may consider class attendance in determining the grade.  If attendance is being considered as part of a class participation grade, the instructor must advise the students in writing during the first week of class.

The ABA requires that students attend class regularly and punctually.  Students who must be absent from their courses for an extended period of time are encouraged to contact the Associate Dean for Administration who, in turn, will contact the students' professors.
