This course will address the practical as well as theoretical challenges of protecting women's rights under Sharia Law as it is practiced in Nigeria; exploring the tensions between Rule of Law and Rule of the Law in Sharia States; the question as to whether basic human rights, as defined by international standards, are protected. The outcomes of this course will be a "white paper" by students on the dialectics of justice and Sharia. Course Requirement: Students will prepare for an interactive class by reading extensively into the subject before each class.
