A seminar which examines the prevailing arguments of Hamilton, Madison and Jay for adoption of the Constitution by the States. The course will set the arguments in the conditions which existed at the time, and, without attempting to intrude upon a course in Constitutional law, will refer various arguments in AThe Federalist@ to parts of the Constitution. It will seek to justify the judgment of Chancellor Kent, that no constitution of government ever received a more masterly and successful vindication.
