July 1, 2006 will be governed by the provisions of the Restructuring Act and will be University Employees not State Classified Employees. Initially, the policies that cover University Employees will be very similar to the current policies for Classified Employees. Once the new system is implemented, University employees will be governed by that system and will not be given the opportunity to elect.

Full-time positions are listed with the Commonwealth of Virginia's Recuuit Management system. Often, position vacancies are advertised in local newspapers. Unless otherwise specified, all positions are open to all qualified candidates.
Full-time (or classified) positions are those that normally work a 40-hour work week and are eligible for employee benefits. Hourly (or unclassified) positions generally work 20-30 hours per week, are subject to a maximum of 1,500 hours in a 365-day period, and are not eligible for employee benefits. All announced vacancies include information about the status (full-time or part-time) of the position.
The Hiring Process
Once a selection recommendation is made by the hiring department, the selection is reviewed and approved by the Office of Human Resources. The hiring department will extend a verbal offer of employment to the selected candidate. The Office of Human Resources will confirm the verbal offer in writing to the candidate.
