Housing

On-campus housing is available to graduate students on a first-come-first-service basis in the Lettie Pate Whitehead Evans Residences, otherwise known as the "grad complex." The projected rent for the 2006-2007 academic year is $2,345 per semester for two-person apartment, and $2,295 for a triple or quad. Graduate students who want to keep their apartment during the summer may do so, and will be charged on a prorated basis. The Office of Residence Life will assign apartment-mates to incoming students. The Residence Life Office offers a limited number of unfurnished apartments (2-bedrooms) in Ludwell Apartments for eligible students who are living with spouses and/or children/dependents. Some of the features of these apartments include: college telephone (long distance service at an additional charge), cable TV and internet connection; monthly payment/12 month lease; reasonable prices including utilties; located within undergraduate student area; electric range, refrigerator, garbage disposal, dishwasher; accessible to the campus and community; coin operated laundry facilities; free college bus service; parking limited and by permit only. How to find off-campus housing?

• check the Student Information Network's on-line "housing center."
• try the classifies in the Virginia Gazette or the Daily Press. Click on "Apartments and Homes for Rent," then limit your search to Newport News and Vicinity. Then choose options 7 or 8: Williamsburg and James City County or York County and Poquoson. The City of Williamsburg is not in a county, so you'll want to search the James City County and York County listings too. Keep in mind, though, that those are big counties.
