In the fall of
2006, the College of William & Mary was awarded $1.8 million from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute for the advancement of undergraduate education and
outreach in biological sciences and other scientific
disciplines. As the third consecutive grant, this funding has
expanded undergraduate research
opportunities, led to new and
enhanced interdisciplinary course offerings, offered faculty development
initiatives, and provided resources for
teachers and pre-college students.
All three grants, but particularly the 2006 grant, stress the importance of
interdisciplinary and integrative approaches to education and research.
This website
describes the goals, initiatives, and accomplishments of William and Mary's
HHMI program. It also provides students, faculty, and educators with
an overview of available opportunities and resources supported by the HHMI
Undergraduate Science Education Program grant to the College of William and
Mary.
